An important get together of the coffee and tea industry
COTECA Coffee, Tea, Cocoa Global Industry Expo was held in Hamburg from 10 to 12 October, with 200 exhibitors from some 40 nations showcasing their innovative products and services. Some 3,600 trade visitors from 75 countries came to the Hamburg Messe to network and do business. The partnership with the Kaffee Campus of the German Roasters Guild contributed to COTECA’s success again; it is Europe’s only business meeting to bring together the coffee, tea and cocoa industries at one venue.Hamburg Messe und Congress, Excerpt from the official Press Text-
This time I was not only a visitor, I also was an exhibitor. One might think that exhibitions and fair trades in the coffee industry are boring because they are all similar to each other. Indeed there are some events I refuse to visit because it is true.
Luckily the COTECA in Hamburg is really different. Thus it is a coffee business related exhibition, it is a meeting point of people leading the coffee-, tea- and chocolate industry. This mixture makes this event unique.
The discussions between the visitors and exhibitors are mainly "cross-industry", that's what makes them so interesting and challenging. You feel a dynamic and an awareness that we live in a business environment which currently changes rapidly.
An example for this change was our exhibition stall where we presented our newest LaMacatec coffee roasters and our beans&burnes coffee roaster concept. The stall's visitors not only admired the nice looking coffee roasters, they really asked in depth questions, which showed us that roasting your own coffee becomes one of the new paths in the world of coffee.
Furthermore we detected a growing interest in the tea sector. The stigma being an old ladies drink is disappearing due to massive campaigns and changing health trends (btw. coffee is not unhealthy). Therefore clever guys in the coffee industry open up against the tea trend instead of mystifying it. Coffee and tea might become good fellows.
For me the COTECA was inspiring and refreshed my brain. Additionally it was like a warm rain on my head since it proved that my thoughts about the coffee business development were right. Therefore I like to close this post with a further excerpt from the official press text since reading it between the lines, one will exactly understand where the coffee business's cruises to.
We are very happy at the great success of the second German Kaffee Campus at COTECA 2018. It was even more lively and better attended than in 2016. We took the opportunity for a wider view in our conferences, workshops and cuppings, and addressed not only coffee subjects but also tea – that was very well received by the expert audience. The overall quality of COTECA is outstanding. That was evident in the many interesting and well-informed discussions we had here.Enver Atabay, Chairman of the German Roasters Guild
